Family Halloween Fun!

Halloween is always a great time for friends and family to gather, whether for trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving or simply just for spending some spooky time together! For kids of all ages, and even for adults, dressing up and exploring your neighborhood can be one of the best parts of the holiday. This Halloween, we wanted to share some ideas for ways to spend time with family and friends while getting into the spirit of the holiday season.Everyone wants their costume to be unique, so use the time before trick-or-treating to brainstorm with grandchildren about creative costume ideas they can wear to celebrate. If you have a knack for it, you can even help sew or craft a costume yourself! And costumes aren’t just for kids—get into the holiday spirit with a creative costume of your own. Many of us fondly remember Halloween ending with a “candy swap.” Invite your kids and grandkids over to your house, whip up some spooky Halloween treats, and turn your kitchen table into a candy swap! Each kid (or adult!) can trade with one another in order to go home with a good variety of all their favorite candy. If your child or grandchild has food allergies, this also is the perfect time to search through their bags without calling attention to the goodies they can’t eat. After the holiday ends, there are even ways you can continue the Halloween festivities in a charitable way. Soldier’s Angels is an organization that organizes a yearly Treats for Troops program, allowing you to donate extra candy that you may have sitting around to our troops overseas, and to our VA hospitals at home. You can search for a drop-off site by plugging in your zip code here, and know that you are doing something good for our troops and veterans with all that leftover candy. We would love to see how you and your family celebrate Halloween, especially any creative or fun costumes you come up with! Share photos with us on our Twitter and Facebook pages, and most of all, be sure to be safe, have fun, and enjoy every moment of family time this fall!
